Grit - is a photo series that intends to highlight artists who emerge with bold artwork and meaningful perspective from one of Toronto’s most distinctive yet glanced over boroughs.
Scarborough radiates culture, diversity and perspective, which is ingrained into the very fabric of the people themselves. However, the community - specifically the art community - has been continually neglected, underfunded and ignored.
The resilience and courage to succeed despite these challenges in front of the individual is evident in the gritty characteristics that Scarborough yutes possess.
By linking Scarborough with gritty characteristics, the 7 unique individuals seen on this wall have “grit” manifested within them. With the guidance of the Wave Art Collective, they’ve been able to cultivate works of art that they feel are important to represent “Art from Scarborough”.
These are the Wave Runners.
